About Us

Who we are
Your pet is more than a companion, and we’re more than a veterinary hospital. From our beginnings in 2005, we aimed higher, determined to be a home base for everything you and your pet need to support their lifelong physical and emotional well-being. We are a resource, in the truest sense of the word. We are…
- The place you turn to with questions, big or small
- The ones you call for encouragement and understanding (or to celebrate life’s little wins)
- The place you go for unparalleled medicine and customer service
- The hands, hearts, and minds you trust with your precious pet
- Here for you, always.
Lifelong Care for Your Best Friend
Our TeamMore than a veterinary hospital, your home for pet health.
They ground us in the present, love us unconditionally, and accept us for who we are.
At Best Friends Animal Hospital and Pet Resources in Swansea, Illinois, we’ve created an entire veterinary experience that emulates that feeling. From the first time you walk through our doors to every phone call, email, and exam, you and your pet are welcomed, cared for, and honored.
Because that’s just what friends do.

Our promise to you
Long after your appointment, email, or phone call, we’re still thinking about your pet—reviewing results, researching options, checking in, and planning what’s next. Because true care—like friendship—isn’t momentary.
It’s a continuous, ever-deepening effort to always be there, in every moment, in all the small and significant ways that matter most.
What we do
And just as excellence evolves, so do we. Our team is continuously learning, training, and growing to provide seamless, high-quality care to you and your pet.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are we accepting new clients?
Yes, we are! We’re always excited to welcome new pets and their people to the Best Friends family. You can fill out our new client forms online before your first visit to help us get to know you and your pet better and make your appointment as smooth as possible.
What kinds of pets do we care for?
We care for dogs, cats, small mammals, and exotic pets like rabbits, guinea pigs, reptiles, and birds. If you’re not sure whether we can see your pet, just give us a call—we’ll be happy to let you know how we can help.
What does our AAHA accreditation mean?
Our AAHA accreditation shows our commitment to the highest standards in veterinary care. Fewer than 12% of hospitals in North America earn this distinction. It means we’ve met over 900 standards for safety, medicine, communication, and cleanliness—and that we’re constantly re-evaluated to keep improving.
Do we offer payment plans or financing options?
Yes! We understand that veterinary care can sometimes be unexpected. That’s why we partner with CareCredit, All Pet Card, and VetBilling® to make paying for your pet’s care more flexible and stress-free. Together, we’ll help you find an option that works for you and your budget.
How often should my pet come in for a checkup?
Most pets should visit us at least once a year for a full wellness exam. Puppies, kittens, and senior pets may need to come in more often so we can keep a close eye on their growth or changing needs. Regular checkups help us prevent problems, detect changes early, and keep your pet feeling their best.
Do we handle emergencies?
We handle many urgent and emergency cases during our regular business hours. If your pet needs help right away, please call us before coming in so we can prepare for your arrival. For after-hours emergencies, we work closely with trusted local emergency hospitals to make sure your pet always has access to the care they need.
