End-of-Life Care

A gentle, loving, and peaceful farewell fit for your beloved friend

Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is the most difficult part of pet ownership.

But allowing them to exit this world with dignity, peace, and complete comfort is a priceless gift.

At Best Friends Animal Hospital and Pet Resources, we understand your pain–because we’ve been there, too.

Let us come alongside you during this emotional time and ensure you and your pet experience nothing but love, kindness, and gratitude for the time you’ve spent together.

Is it time? Assessing quality of life

Our deep love for our pets can make it difficult to recognize when they’re suffering. And because they love us just as fiercely, they may hide their pain—as one last act of devotion, meant to spare us distress.

If you’re unsure whether it’s time to say goodbye, our veterinarians can offer a compassionate, objective quality-of-life assessment. By evaluating key factors—including pain, mobility, appetite, thirst, awareness, and social engagement, as well as the chronicity and potential for change—they’ll help you understand your pet’s condition and make a decision rooted in comfort, dignity, and love.

Goodbye, friend: The euthanasia appointment

Knowing what to expect can help you emotionally prepare, allowing you to focus on your pet, not the process.

A calm, private space

You’ll be welcomed into a quiet, cozy room designed to feel more like home than a veterinary hospital—soft lighting, warm blankets, and space to hold your pet close.

Comfort-focused care

Your pet will be gently sedated to ensure they’re relaxed and pain-free before the final medication is given. They’ll feel only warmth, calm, and your loving presence.

The sweetest goodbye

There’s no rush. You’ll have as much time as you need before, during, and after—to say goodbye, share one more hug, or simply sit in the stillness reflecting on your wonderful memories. When you’re ready, the veterinarian will return and gently administer the injection. Your pet will drift off peacefully, knowing only your kindness and love.

Support for you, too

Our team will walk you through each step with clarity and compassion, answer any questions, and provide space and privacy when you need it most.
