Reservations

We recommend that all reservations be made several weeks in advance, especially for holidays and weekends during the summer. Our space is limited to make the environment calmer and less stressful for our guests, and we do book up quickly. We keep a waiting list should cancellations occur, but being on the waiting list is, of course, not a guarantee. In order to protect your pet’s health and the health of other guests, we require proof of vaccinations prior to making a reservation. If you need to cancel your pet’s reservation, please provide 72 hours notice to avoid a cancellation fee equal to the cost of one night’s stay.

Vaccines

All guests must be current on their vaccinations* and free of any contagious diseases.

*If your pet is not a patient at Best Friends Animal Hospital and Pet Resort, you must have proof of vaccinations faxed to us from your current vet prior to booking your pet’s stay. Our fax number is 618-222-2861.

We require all dogs to have had their Bordetella (kennel cough) vaccine administered one week prior to their stay to ensure adequate immunity upon admission. All dogs must also be current on their rabies, distemper, and parvovirus inoculations. Our feline guests must be current on their rabies and FVRCP (feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and panleukopenia) inoculations. This policy is strictly enforced to ensure the safety of your pet as well as the other animals in our facility.

Checking In

Please allow 10 to 15 minutes when checking your pet in for a resort stay. This allows for time to fill out an admission form so we can ensure we provide the proper care for your pet.

Check In/Check Out

Check-in time is after 2 pm, and check-out time is before noon. If you need to check in prior to 2 pm or check out after noon, you will be charged for an additional ½ day’s stay. Just like a hotel, our resort attendants need time to thoroughly clean and sanitize each new pet’s room, and we prefer not to put incoming guests in holding areas. Please notify us if you are running late and won’t be able to pick your pet up at the stated time. We thank you for your cooperation!

72 Hour Cancellation Policy

If you need to cancel a reservation with us, please notify us within 72 hours of check-in time. Failure to do so will result in a charge for one night’s stay and may affect your ability to make future reservations.

Stress Diarrhea

If you know your pet is prone to stress-induced diarrhea and you are not a medical client, we recommend speaking with your veterinarian about having a treatment plan for this situation should it arise. If you are not a client or your pet is not a current patient that has been seen within the past year, our doctor is required by law to perform an examination prior to prescribing diarrhea medication, if it is needed. You will be charged an exam fee.

If our doctor feels that a fecal test should be performed on a pet with diarrhea, you will be charged for the fecal exam. If your dog normally eats dry food, we strongly encourage you to take advantage of the high-quality food we provide at no additional cost. Prescription Purina EN provides nutrients to minimize the likelihood of diarrhea. A canned variety of Purina EN is also available at an additional charge. If your pet is on a different prescription diet, we, of course, recommend providing their regular good.

Aggressive and/or Fearful Pets

At Best Friends Animal Hospital and Pet Resort, we strive to interact with our guests as much as possible. Because they do not have access to their own outdoor run adjacent to their room, our canine guests must be willing to come out of their room to go outside. Due to this, we reserve the right to decline services to any guest with an aggressive temperament. If your pet has never been boarded or you have concerns that they may become aggressive if fearful or anxious, please let us know when making your reservation. If at all possible, we recommend scheduling a “trial” time when your pet can stay with us for a single night where you are close by and can pick them up early if needed. At the very least, we recommend bringing your pet in to check out our facility prior to boarding them.

While it is very important for us to protect our employees from dangerous situations, we also don’t want to see any guests who are stressed out to the point of being miserable. We also want to avoid situations where you leave your pet with us and immediately leave town without making other arrangements in case your companion does not do well in our care.

Flea Policy

We do our best to minimize the likelihood of any of our guests picking up external parasites, such as fleas. However, because we care for so many pets at a time, there is a possibility that your companion could encounter a flea. If you would like us to guarantee that your pet won’t bring home any unwelcome guests, we can administer Capstar to your pet for a fee. This product is very safe and eliminates all fleas from your pet within minutes.

We recommend taking advantage of this offer, but we also advise you to take steps to safeguard your pet. Products like Nexgard and Bravecto all do a great job of keeping external parasites at bay. Your vet can help you determine which one is right for your pet. Please note that your pet will be checked for fleas at check-in. If detected, your pet will need to be treated for fleas prior to admission, and a charge will be incurred.

Grooming Services

We do not have a professional groomer on staff to cut or shave pets. We do have highly trained personnel to provide the following services at least two days a week: 

  • Bathing
  • Nail trims
  • Ear cleaning
  • Routine anal gland expression
  • Spa packages

These services are offered on an appointment-only basis, and the pricing listed above applies unless the pet is fractious and extra help is required or additional services are requested. 

The vaccination policy described above also applies to grooming appointments.
